The structural backbone of Austin's best buildings.
Independent structural engineering for architects and developers — homes, restaurants, and small commercial work across Central Texas. I find the cleanest beam, the smallest column, the cantilever that just barely works — so the design can hold the room.

Structural Design
Early-stage engineering for new builds and additions. I work alongside the architect from schematic through permit set, sizing members, sketching framing layouts, and pressure-testing the geometry before the drawings ever leave the office.

Construction Documents
Sealed drawings, calculations and specifications ready for the city and the contractor. Clean, coordinated sheets that hold up to plan review, value engineering, and the field.

Peer Review
A second set of eyes on an existing structural package before bids go out — for owners who want a sanity check, or architects working with a new engineer for the first time.

Construction Administration
Site visits, RFI responses, and field adjustments through closeout. I stay on the project once the boots hit the dirt — because the drawings are never the whole story.
Through closeout
Hi, I'm Shane. I run Bones.
I started Bones after a decade designing structure for homes, restaurants, and small commercial buildings around Austin. Most of that time I worked alongside architects who cared deeply about how a building feels — and I learned that the best structures are the ones you don't notice.
My job is to disappear inside someone else's design. To find the cleanest beam, the smallest column, the cantilever that just barely works. I'd rather spend an extra afternoon on a connection detail than ship a heavy-handed solution that bullies the architecture.
If you're an architect or developer who wants an engineer in the conversation early — not at the end, marking things up — let's talk.
